What, Why, and How?!?

Human trafficking is the 2nd most lucrative organized crime in the world. It is estimated that 27 million people are currently subjected to modern day slavery. This is an issue that affects not only countries like Cambodia and Indonesia, it is happening all over our world. In fact, it is reported that “Ohio’s weak laws on human trafficking, its growing demand for cheap labor, and its proximity to the Canadian border are key contributors to the illegal activity, according to a report by the Trafficking in Persons Study Commission. Ohio is not only a destination place for foreign-born trafficking victims, but it’s also a recruitment place,’’ said Celia Williamson, an associate professor at the University of Toledo who led the research.

One of the best ways to stay informed, learn how to fight, and join what we’re doing,  is to join the brand new Love146 taskforce website and become a part of The Power of One, Dayton. The website doesn’t officially launch until November, but it is in beta right now, and most things are working! Once you have requested a membership, we will keep you informed of our monthly meetings and upcoming events!

Our mission is to reach out to the people of Dayton and surrounding communities with a message of hope. We our committed to raising awareness of the tragedy that is child trafficking. Through our individual passions, talents, and resources combined we intend to wage a war on child trafficking. It is our desire to do everything in our power to bring justice and love to the countless victims of such a horrible crime. Our team meets on a monthly basis to learn what child trafficking looks like, while discussing the many ways we can fight it both locally and globally. Our annual event will be held on January 11th, 2011. At this event our goal is to raise both funds and awareness through speakers, musical artist, interactive exhibits and more!
